Workshop available with hospital sculptors

We are delighted to be offering the opportunity for members of the public to work with the sculptors who have been chosen to create a glass sculpture for the exterior of the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, due to open in June 2015.

This follows a successful art engagement event during the summer which showcased artists shortlisted to produce artwork for the new hospital. The workshop will be held with the chosen sculptors Cate Watkinson and Colin Rennie on Friday 7 November.

The workshop will be an interactive insight into the collaborative working practices of the artists. It will be introduced through an illustrated talk and discussion of their methods for developing work, from paper sketches to models on the computer, through to renders and real models, through to final finished sculptures.

Through experimentation with cut out flat pack card and perspex assemblages you will have the opportunity to work directly with similar methods to the artists and discover new relationships between computer aided modelling and traditional modelling with materials. There will then be a chance to compare and discuss your outcomes with the artists.

We have limited places available for those interested – it is free to attend but must be booked. Please email: brightcharity@northumbria.nhs.uk to book your place. These will be given on a first come first served basis and will be confirmed week commencing 27 October.

Date and location:

Friday 7 November from 4 – 6pm at Azure Garden Centre, Cramlington, NE23 8BJ
