Trust in top five in the country

Patients have voted Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust the best in the region and among the top five NHS trusts in the country for the care they have received.

Patients’ ratings for overall experience of care, dignity and respect and the quality of doctors show that the Trust is among the best in the country.

The 2011 National Outpatient Survey, released by the Care Quality Commission, involved163 trusts with over 72,000 patients across the country providing feedback on their experience of care.

Jim Mackey, chief executive of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “To fall within the top five nationally in any benchmarking exercise is pretty special, however, I feel particularly proud of the fact that we are the only non specialist acute organisation in this very elite group.

“We have been doing a lot of work to understand what our patients feel and say about us and how they rate our services and this is paying real dividends in our ability to respond to their needs. This is, of course, entirely due to the outstanding collective efforts of our staff.”

The results follow the Trust winning a top national patient experience award for improving the quality of care of people who suffer a hip fracture. The Trust triumphed at the Patient Experience Network National Awards (PENNA) earlier this year.
