Trust shortlisted for award

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is in the running to win an award in the prestigious Top Hospitals programme for the second year in a row.

The Trust won the data quality award in 2011 and has been shortlisted for this year’s award which recognises the importance of accurate clinical coding and data quality in ensuring hospitals offer cost-effective and high quality care.

The awards are run by CHKS, the UK’s leading independent provider of healthcare intelligence and quality improvement services.

Ann Farrar, chief operating officer at the Trust, said: “We were delighted to win this award last year and are pleased to be in the running to retain the title.

“We pride ourselves in the quality of our data and good quality data is key to our desire to further improve our services for patients.”

Jason Harries, managing director of CHKS, said: “Information is playing an increasingly important role in healthcare delivery. Clinicians and managers rely on accurate data to make decisions about the delivery of care and to help them make improvements in the care they provide.

“Our data quality awards highlight the very best performance in clinical coding quality and completeness.”

The award is based on publicly available data and every NHS acute trust is included in the analysis.

The winner will be announced on May 1.
