Tour of Britain – site disruptions
The Tour of Britain cycle race will pass through Northumberland this week and this will impact on access to services at Alnwick, Blyth, Hexham and Wansbeck hospitals. Full details of road closures are detailed below. 
 
Services will continue to run as usual, however, patients and visitors are being advised to expect significant disruption around the hospital sites.  Please note there will be no access to the hospital car parks during these times.
 
Although pedestrian access to the sites will not be affected, vehicle access during the times below will be restricted to emergencies and urgent patient transfers only. Town centres are expected to be very busy and patients attending for any routine hospital or GP appointments, or relatives planning to visit a loved one are being advised to allow plenty of time. Whilst usual visiting hours will be in place, the start and finish times of these will, however, be slightly relaxed to enable people to spend time with their loved ones. 
 
Blyth Community Hospital – ALL DAY – Wednesday 9 September 
 
Waterloo Road will be closed from 00:00hrs to 23.59hrs
The A193 from Seaton Sluice to Waterloo Road will be closed from 13.00hrs to 16.00hrs
There will be no access to the hospital car park during these times and access to the hospital will be restricted to emergency vehicles only (this includes urgent patient transfers)
Any patients attending the minor injuries unit between 09:00hrs and 17:00hrs will be able to access the hospital via pedestrian routes 
 
Alnwick Infirmary – 13:00hrs – 14:30 hrs – Wednesday 9 September 
 
A full road closure through Alnwick will be in place between 13:00hrs and 14:30hrs with the race expected to arrive at approx 13:45hrs
There will be no access to the hospital car park during these times and access to the hospital will be restricted to emergency vehicles only (this includes urgent patient transfers)
Any patients attending the minor injuries unit will be able to access the hospital via pedestrian routes 
Any urgent maternity patients are being advised to present themselves to traffic management officers to access Hillcrest 
 
Wansbeck General Hospital – 14:00hrs – 15:30 hrs – Wednesday 9 September 
 
Access to Wansbeck General Hospital will be maintained from the A189 south and via Woodhorn Road/Woodhorn Lane. It is expected that the town will be very busy and there may be delays in accessing the hospital site.  
 
Hexham General Hospital – 11:00hrs to 12:00hrs – Thursday 10 September 
 
A full road closure will be in place from Dean Street to Whetstone Bridge from 11.00hrs until 12 noon
The A695 from Riding Mill will operate under a rolling road closure between 10:45hrs and 11:30hrs
There will be no access to the hospital car park during these times and access to the hospital will be restricted to emergency vehicles only  (this includes urgent patient transfers)
Any patients attending urgent care services will be able to access via pedestrian routes 
Any urgent maternity patients should present themselves to traffic management officers to access the hospital site
