Syria appeal – behind the scenes

The charity is involved in various international projects and most recently launched an appeal for Syria – donating unused medical supplies to those most desperately in need.

Staff member, Laura Hutchinson, describes working on the recent appeal:

“I have worked with the Trust for a year and a half now, and although I have been briefed on many international projects that are taking place thanks to the Trust’s charity, I was finally able to help out first hand.

“I am sure everyone is aware of what is currently happening in Syria, and for this reason the charity sent out an appeal to staff across the Trust, to send medical supplies that were no longer in use or were due to go out of date to North Tyneside General Hospital’s distribution centre. This was so they could be sent across to Syria, which would be a huge benefit to doctors over there, allowing them to provide better medical attention to those in need.

“I was asked by the charity’s manager if I would like to help out, and I jumped at the chance. After several weeks of publicising the appeal, we went over to the distribution centre where all the donations from staff  were waiting for us. I was amazed at the amount of things the staff were able to send, everything from blood transfusion kits, needles, BP monitors and dressings. The list was endless, but all of the supplies were essential and will make a huge difference. I am sure the doctors and people in Syria would be very thankful for this appeal.”
