Remembering the history of the NHS

Northumbria Healthcare is inviting members of the public and former NHS staff along to an event in North Shields to share their memories of the NHS.

The trust’s Bright charity is planning a new exhibition at North Tyneside General Hospital looking at how healthcare has changed over the last century from the workhouses and philanthropic institutions to the introduction of the NHS and vast changes over its 71-year history.

Focusing on the North Tyneside area, they are appealing for stories, photographs and artefacts which may be of interest and could be included in the exhibition.

Dan Jackson, prominent historian with an interest in the NHS and author of the bestselling book ‘The Northumbrians: North-East England and its People: A New history’ will also be attending.

This is a free event, however, booking is essential and on a first come first served basis, as space is limited.
