Recycle your cycle scheme
We’re delighted that our new cycling scheme, Recycle your Cycle, helped to make two children very happy this Christmas.
Community nurse, Jackie Neville, took advantage of the new scheme and purchased two bikes for her foster sons; aged five and eight which means they each had a very special present on Christmas morning.
Jackie officially welcomed the brothers into her family in August and wanted to get them something they really wanted for Christmas – a bike. But having four biological children already, and a granddaughter, she needed to find something that was going to be cost-effective.
Jackie said, “I stumbled upon the scheme by chance as I was scrolling on the Northumbria Facebook page which led me to get in touch with Dave at the bike shop in Longbenton. I found Dave and his team incredibly friendly and helpful. They couldn’t do enough for me – they even added stabilizers onto the bikes for no extra cost. I can highly recommend this service. The bikes are in mint condition – practically new! I had two very happy boys on Christmas morning.”
We launched the Recycle your Cycle scheme in November to help staff access bikes at an affordable rate. The scheme is ‘pay-as-you-feel’ which means that you can pay what you think the bike is worth or whatever you can afford, no questions asked. Any money made from the bikes will go back into the Northumbria Recycle your Cycle scheme and help others access bikes too.
