Dr Steven Coates, North Tyneside and Dhulikhel Hospital 

Dr Stephen Coates is a consultant clinical neurophysiologist working in Northumbria and Cumbria.  In 2010 Dr Coates established a link with Dhulikhel Hospital in Nepal for adult and paediatric epilepsy clinics.  He set up EEG equipment in this hospital to measure brain activity in patients with possible epilepsy or other brain disorders. The brain activity could then be sent as a file over the Internet to be read and reported on by Dr Coates back in the UK ( TeleEEG).  The service proved extremely useful and Dr Coates has gone on to establish TeleEEG links in India, Myanmar and Laos.  Over 800 EEG files have now been interpreted using this service. Further expansion and development of the TeleEEG service in to Africa is anticipated in 2016.
