National award for speech and language team
Efforts to raise awareness of the value of speech and language services in Northumberland and North Tyneside have won a national award.
Our speech and language team with students and staff from Newcastle University’s School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences, was recognised by The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) in its Giving Voice Awards 2011.
The award rewards the efforts of the team for committing time and energy on behalf of the RCSLT’s Giving Voice campaign which aims to show how speech and language therapy transforms lives.
The campaign also demonstrates how speech and language therapy makes a difference to people with speech, language and communication needs, their families and the wider society.
And newly-qualified speech and language therapist Julie Carr, from Newcastle University, who has worked with the team, won the Outstanding Contribution to Speech and Language Therapy category.
The Trust’s speech and language therapy team works throughout North Tyneside and Northumberland to help those people with communication problems. They also work closely with colleagues at Newcastle University to provide clinical practice placements for speech and language therapy students.
