Marine flies home to run for Bright

Marine Jamie Jobson just made it to the starting line in time to run the Great North Run with fiancée Hannah Leach.

Beauty therapist Hannah, age 22, heaved a sigh of relief when Jamie made it home from Afghanistan the night before the race to join her in their first run in memory of her grandad Michael Gay.

Hannah, from Monkseaton, Whitley Bay, had been determined to raise money for Ward 3 and the oncology unit at Wansbeck General Hospital where her grandad was cared for in 2006 by a team of “fantastic” nurses and doctors.

She said:“I wanted to do something to repay the care and support the nurses and doctors gave to my grandad and my family.  They were just fantastic.

“However, I really was worried that Jamie wouldn’t make it back in time but he arrived just in time for the race so it was great to have him with me to cross the finishing line together.”

The couple crossed the line in 2 hours 6 minutes and Hannah raised £652.
