Health club raises money for special care baby unit

The Oasis Health Club in Ashington has raised £1,480 for babies who need a little extra care at Wansbeck General Hospital.

The money for the special care baby unit was raised during a three-hour sponsored aerobathon and spinathon.

Oasis Health Club manager Kevin Crick and his colleagues wanted to challenge themselves, their customers and also support a local charity.

Advanced neo-natal nurse practitioner at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Valerie Palmer said: “I am delighted to receive the donation on behalf of the unit, it’s great that the local community are giving up their time to raise money for the unit.”

The money will go towards improving the experiences of the premature babies receiving care on the unit and their families.

Northumbria Healthcare’s Bright Charity works hard to provide the extras that are not usually funded by the NHS but which ensure patients of all ages have the best experience possible in hospital.
