Golf day raises money for special care baby unit at Wansbeck hospital

A charity golf day has raised £1,000 for babies at Wansbeck General Hospital who need a little extra care.

Fundraiser Dave Osborn organised the event at Seahouses for the hospital’s special care baby unit. The day was the first charity event for his employer Deakin Printers Ltd of Monkseaton.

Dave, from Cramlington, said: “We started raising money for the unit three years ago after a friend’s baby was looked after so well and we have continued every year since then as it is such a good cause and the staff provide such excellent care.”

Joan Oliver, ward manager of the special care baby unit, said: “We would like to thank Dave for organising the golf day and raising money for our unit. All donations received go towards improving the experiences of the babies in our care and their families.”

The event, which involved 60 players, also raised £1,300 for local cancer charities.

The donation was through Northumbria Healthcare’s Bright Charity which works hard to provide the extras which ensure patients of all ages have the best experience possible during their stay in hospital.
