Football fundraiser raises over £3,000 for Wansbeck Palliative Care Unit
Wansbeck Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit have been presented with a donation of over £3,000 after a family held a football fundraising event in July this year in memory of their late Mother, Margaret Stewart.
Neil and Helen Dickinson and their family and friends organised the event to support the Unit after it provided care and support to Margaret after she was diagnosed with bladder and secondary cancer.
Margaret was a nurse herself, serving for many years caring for elderly patients and also training young nurses.
The funds raised will make an incredible difference to the service and facilities at Wansbeck. Ward Sister Leanne Hale said,
“We are incredibly grateful to Neil and Helen and their family and friends for raising funds to support the Palliative Care unit. We always aspire to continuously improve the services and facilities we can offer here to ensure our patients receive the best possible palliative care and donations like this, will enable us to do just that. We will use the donation very wisely and ensure that it makes a difference to all our patients and that Margaret’s memory is never forgotten. Our thanks go to everyone who supported their fundraising efforts and the Palliative Care Unit at Wansbeck”.
The family are already organising the event again for next year and plan to host it it May 2016.
The donation was made to Bright Northumbria which is the registered charity of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The charity aims to provide the extras to care that aren’t provided through regular NHS funding. For further information contact Bright Northumbria 0191 203 1354 email@example.com/charity.
