Everybody needs good neighbours
Staff member Mike Clear has taken part in the Great North Bike Ride challenge along with his friend and neighbour Pamela. Together, they have raised nearly £500 for the special care baby unit at Wansbeck General Hospital.
Describing the challenge, Mike said:
“As a part time porter at Wansbeck hospital I regularly see the tremendous work that is carried out by the special care baby unit.
“I can honestly say that the staff are fantastic and deserve all the help they can get to purchase specialist equipment and supplies.”
Pamela had a personal reason for helping to raise funds as her daughter Ruby was cared for by the unit when she was first born. Mike said: “Ruby is now a beautiful little 6 year old girl and best friends with my little girl Jasmine.”
The route took Mike and Pamela from Seahouses to Tynemouth on a beautiful sunny day in August. Mike said: “The atmosphere was terrific throughout the ride, people were really friendly and we were greeted at the finish line by our families with live music from a steel band.
“Having picked up our medals and shirts we both headed home for a well deserved drink!”
Well done to Mike and Pamela on their achievement!
