Cricket cup champions crowned
A silver cricket cup which was mysteriously found in a hospital store cupboard has been played for at the weekend for the first time in 75 years.
Three teams – Blyth, Boumarsund and New Hartley – competed for the ‘Thomas Knight Memorial Hospital Cricket Challenge Cup’ on Sunday (17 August) in a charity competition organised by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Northumberland Cricket Board.
Blyth Cricket Club were the winners of the competition and were presented with the trophy by Brenda Longstaff, charity and volunteer senior lead officer at Northumbria Healthcare.
The trophy dates back to the 1920s and was last played for in 1939.
