The Calendar Lads complete their 2015 charity challenge

A huge well done and thank you to the ‘Calendar lads’ who have successfully completed their 2015 charity challenge and raised around £6,000!

The ‘Calendar Lads’, staff based at Wansbeck General Hospital and the Northumbria Hospital, walked 60 miles from Holy Island to the Northumbria hospital, Cramlington – a non-stop trek over 24 hours to raise awareness and funds for Bright Northumbria and the Education Centre for Children with Down Syndrome.

Craig Leathard, charge nurse at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, who lives in Ashington, led the walk.

He said: “The walk was extremely challenging, both physically and mentally, and I’m immensely proud of everyone’s efforts.

“As we do on a daily basis we all worked together and helped each other to reach the finish line at The Northumbria hospital.

“I would like to congratulate everyone who completed the walk and all the people who supported us in some way – it was a real team effort.

“The support we received from communities along the route was overwhelming – we would like to thank them all and everyone who has donated and helped us raise this fantastic amount.

“We were so pleased that children and families from the centre were able to join us for the final stage of the walk, it was such a boost to us all and an emotional end to a gruelling challenge.”

The ‘Calendar Lads’ have raised thousands of pounds for good causes over the last few years and have recently been nominated for an Evening Chronicle Champions Award. Read here to find our more.
