Bike ride raises over £600 for oncology day unit

A former patient of the oncology day unit at Wansbeck General Hospital who raised £661 by completing a bike ride has presented the money to staff.

Dennis Burn and his friend Dominic Connor, successfully completed the ride from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Cramlington over 2 days in November to raise money for the unit.

Dennis said: “I wanted to do something to thank the staff. Both my wife and I were treated in the unit last year – even starting treatment the same day and the staff were absolutely brilliant. “

Ward sister, Fiona Chatfield said: “We are delighted with what Dennis has achieved and the money raised will help to provide the extras which can make a real difference to patients undergoing treatment. Our warm thanks go to Dennis and everyone who supported the unit.”

The donation was made to Bright Northumbria which is the registered charity of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The charity aims to provide the extras to care that aren’t provided through regular NHS funding.
