Art proposals for Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital unveiled

Artwork proposed for the new Specialist Emergency Care Hospital was unveiled at a recent open art event in Cramlington.

The open art event, held at the Azure Garden Centre on Thursday 5th June, provided an opportunity for the public to meet professional artists and view their design proposals for an internal and external sculpture.

Nearly 100 people attended the event and over 70 people gave their views by completing comment cards and voting for their favourite design. Comments included:

“Very enjoyable”

“Nice to let the general public get an input at this stage of the development”

“Really interesting, I enjoyed seeing the art and talking to the artists”

“Art in hospitals is very important”

“Art is an essential element towards holistic healing and balanced mental and emotional wellbeing.”

Arts programme lead, Brenda Longstaff said “The trust places high importance on providing the best environment for our patients, visitors and staff. We are very excited about having the possibility of working with such highly regarded professional artists and it is so important that the public are involved. Over the next few months we hope to work on projects with local artists and local communities so that they are also part of the new hospital.”

Our thanks go to everyone who took part in our open art event. The successful designs will be announced in July.

Northumbria’s award-winning healing arts programme is supported by donations to the Bright Charity.

The new art will be on display when the new Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care hospital opens in June 2015.
