2010 – Commonwealth Professional Fellowships
In 2010 we were successfully registered as a host organisation for Commonwealth Professional Fellowships, a programme delivered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC). Through this, we have welcomed numerous healthcare professionals from KCMC over the years, inviting them to our hospitals and services to undertake training and placements over several weeks.
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development office, awards Professional Fellowships to mid-career professionals from low and middle-income Commonwealth countries to spend between six weeks and three months at a UK Host organisation. As KCMC’s UK partner, we are delighted to have been able to nominate colleagues from the hospital to become Commonwealth Professional Fellows.
The prestigious fellowships offer our Tanzanian colleagues a unique and invaluable opportunity to shadow leading clinicians in our hospitals and services and learn about leading and innovative healthcare practices used in the UK. Previous fellows have visited, focussing on a number of different healthcare disciplines from nursing and infection control to gynaecology and laparoscopic surgery, to broaden and advance their specialist skills and knowledge.
On their return to Tanzania, not only have the Fellows taken enhanced knowledge and skills back to their roles in KCMC but they have made an incredible impact in their areas of work, implementing positive and sustainable change to practices and protocols in the hospital and many becoming heads of service. This also helps to progress our partnership work and the overall development of the hospital.
