Investing in our hospitals

    • A major investment programme is planned for our hospitals
    • A major investment programme is planned for our hospitals

We’re planning to invest £200 million over the next ten years to improve healthcare to people in Northumberland and North Tyneside.

This includes building a new state-of-the-art specialist emergency care hospital to provide the very best emergency care to those who have had an accident or become seriously unwell. It will be one of the first of its kind in the country, with specialist care by consultants provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

This new hospital will give us space to improve North Tyneside and Wansbeck general hospitals, with wards refurbished to give patients more space and greater privacy and dignity.

We’re also improving healthcare for patients in rural Northumberland. Our plans include replacing the existing Berwick Infirmary with a new, purpose-built facility. We’re also working with Northumberland County Council on an integrated health and social care scheme which involves replacing Haltwhistle War Memorial Hospital with a new purpose-built facility and providing extra care services to replace the residential care service previously delivered at Greenholme.
