Being a foundation trust
Local health services
As a foundation trust we have the freedom to plan local services to benefit local communities.
We are a foundation trust which means we are still part of the NHS but free from central government control. This allows us to have greater freedom to plan local services and respond to the needs and wishes of local communities.
We have had Foundation status since 2006 and this enables us to have a greater say in how money is spent, and means we can reinvest surplus finances into improving local services.
We are authorised and regulated by an independent regulator, called Monitor.
We are accountable to local people through them becoming members and governors of the Trust. Governors are elected by members and represent the views of staff, the public and partner organisations.
